Hard Tack Candy

This was always a Holiday favorite when growing up!

3-3/4 cups sugar
1-1/2 cups Karo light corn syrup
1 cup water
1 tsp flavoring oil
food coloring

Sprinkle 18 x 24 inch strip of heavy aluminum foil with powdered sugar.
Mix next three ingredients in large, heavy saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Boil without stirring, until temperature reaches 310 degrees or until drops of candy form hard and brittle threads in cold water.
Remove from heat. Stir in flavoring and color. Pour onto foil. Cool, then break into pieces. Store in air tight container. Makes 2-1/4 pounds.
